Center for Cooperative Media: New Jersey News Commons

The Center for Cooperative Media is a grant funded program of the School of Communication and Media at Montclair State University. The Center is supported with funding from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, the Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation, and Democracy Fund. Its mission is to grow and strengthen local journalism, and in doing so serve New Jersey residents.

Why We Invested

The Center for Cooperative Media is a pioneer in their work to connect New Jersey’s newsrooms, journalists, and communities in new and innovative ways. Without their work, the local news ecosystem would be much weaker. The Center for Cooperative Media’s NJ News Commons work provides the main hub/infrastructure organization in New Jersey for local news organizations and journalists. By making connections between local organizations, helping local organizations access national resources, and building bridges for new partnerships, they serve as a catalyst for innovative ways of working and collaborating in the news ecosystem.
