Center for Democracy and Technology

Center for Democracy and Technology (CDT) is a nonprofit organization that works as a champion of global online civil liberties and human rights, driving policy outcomes that keep the internet open, innovative, and free. CDT works on a variety of issues that involve the protection of Internet users, including the balance between cybersecurity and protection of users' privacy. CDT works to ensure that any sharing of Internet users’ communications information for cybersecurity purposes is carefully prescribed, and that such information should be used only to enhance the security of data and information systems.

Why We Invested

Through research and convenings, the Center for Democracy and Technology (CDT) will share resources and best practices in cybersecurity with election officials, information security community stakeholders, policymakers, and other key stakeholders. Organizations that facilitate the administration of, and public participation in, American elections are increasingly relying on digital tools to carry out their missions and must protect their election infrastructure from cybersecurity threats. This grant supports the Center for Democracy and Technology to address a broad range of election cybersecurity issues and supports Democracy Fund’s work to bolster the public’s trust in elections.
