Why We Invested
The financial implications of living and working in Washington, D.C. creates several barriers to entry, and a ripple effect of consequences, for students who desire to gain experience in politics. This creates a bubble of politicos who have similar socio-economic experiences and network of people who can only speak from a limited worldview.
With the help of our grant, College of Congress seeks to change Congress from inside out by providing all expensively paid internships for Pell Grant students to intern in Congress. By removing the financial barriers associated with an internship in DC, the makeup of congressional staff will be diverse and truly represent America.
