WHY WE INVESTED
State public records laws are powerful tools for transparency, government accountability, and civic participation, but using these laws can often be a challenging process for veteran requesters and first-time filers alike. While public records are all property of the people, it’s often hard to engage the public and convey the importance of these laws to a participatory democracy.
With the help of our grant, CtK will work to unite emerging civic leaders from varying disciplines, with values and ideologies that span the political spectrum and provide them with the tools and skills they need to transform their relationships with other policy-influencers that they would not likely engage with. In this way, CtK will pave the way for these leaders to develop their capacity for civic discourse and create pathways to find solutions for a stronger society.
