WHY WE INVESTED
At a time when U.S. immigrant communities are under threat, ethnic media outlets, publications, online sites and broadcasters who strive to serve immigrant and of-color communities have little financial support. After the New American Media (NAM) closed its doors, thousands of media organizations that serve these communities were left without a institution to support and empower their work. The Center rebuilds and amplifies the forgotten voices of the minority communities and fosters inclusivity in the United States.
With the help of our grant, the Center for Community and Ethnic Media at the CUNY School of Journalism will expand its reach to a larger universe of media publications, online sites, and radio and television programmers with the vision of putting minority communities at the center of national conversation.
