ABOUT THE EVENT
In June 2018, the The Initiative on Catholic Social Thought and Public Life at Georgetown University hosted, “Though Many, One: Overcoming Polarization Through Catholic Social Thought,” which brought together over 100 emerging and established Catholic leaders with diverse backgrounds and differing ecclesial, political, and ideological commitments for three days of listening and learning, dialogue and bridge-building, and prayer and reflection on how together they can help advance the common good in a divided nation. John Allen called this Convening “the most serious effort to address divisions in the American Church in a long time—certainly in the five-year era of Pope Francis.”
WHY WE INVESTED
With support from Democracy Fund, the Initiative on Catholic Social Thought and Public Life is able to engage Catholic leaders from around the country on problem of polarization in the United States, and the ways in which Catholics can contribute to our national political culture in a way that decreases hyper partisanship and polarization.
