The Brookings Institution: Lawfare

The Brookings Institution is a nonprofit public policy organization conducting in-depth research that leads to new ideas for solving problems facing society at the local, national, and global level. Lawfare, a blog and project of the Brooking Institution’s Governance Studies Program, facilitates research and robust analysis of national security issues.

Started in 2010, Lawfare has become an influential platform for nonpartisan research and analysis of government policies and legal maneuvers in the areas of rule of law and national security. It is a widely used resource for journalists, government officials, and other nonprofits.

With the help of our grant, Lawfare will seek to advance their goals of enhancing transparency around government decision-making and facilitating independent, fact-based analysis of government actions. With our support, Lawfare will continue elevating the level of discourse on issues of democracy, national security, and the rule of law through expansion and growth of the Lawfare blog and use of Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests to probe changes in national security policy.

In 2018 we provided additional support directly to the Lawfare Institute to help build its capacity to produce high-quality, rapid response audio and video. This added capacity will help Lawfare increase the listenership of its popular podcast and to livestream events.
