Democracy Fund

Mozilla Foundation: Coral Project

The Coral Project brings journalists and the communities they serve closer together to increase the diversity of voices and experiences reflected in news and reporting.

WHY WE INVESTED:

We believe that it is critical to create a future for journalism that can live up the democratic demands of a diverse nation. Our free press must not only hold leaders accountable, but also deeply engage the public to ensure it is strong, responsive, and trusted. The purpose of this grant is to support the Coral Project in the development and implementation of tools and platforms that encourage a culture of audience-driven storytelling in newsrooms.

The grant will largely focus on expanding adoption of their tools in newsrooms, which will consist of training, outreach and work around shifting culture inside newsrooms to be more transparent. The Coral Project, in conjunction with partners, can help to build a robust public square where newsrooms bring people together around the most difficult issues we face.
