NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund

The NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund (LDF), the country’s first and foremost civil and human rights law firm, is a non-profit legal organization fighting for racial justice through litigation, advocacy, and public education.

WHY WE INVESTED

The NAACP Legal Defense and Education Fund (LDF) was launched at a time when the nation’s aspiration for equality and due process of law were stifled by widespread state-sponsored racial inequality. From that era to the present, LDF has been transformative to achieve racial justice, equality, and an inclusive society.

With the help of our grant, LDF will look to tackle the issues of overly aggressive policing in communities of color – tactics that have often revolved around racial profiling and have led to high-profile killings of people of color. This grant will provide LDF with the funding necessary to build a database of federal grants to local law enforcement to support Title VI administrative complaints related to the federal grant-making process, support data collection to support potential litigation, and support creation of a curriculum and trainings for new prosecutors and judges that explores the role of bias in decision-making. Through the Reform Campaign, LDF will lay the foundation for transforming policing culture and practices to eliminate racial biases, profiling, and to end overly aggressive policing tactics against American citizens.
