National Disability Rights Network

National Disability Rights Network (NDRN) is the nonprofit membership organization for several federally mandated programs that improve the lives of individuals with disabilities and guard against abuse.

WHY WE INVESTED

In 2002, the Help America Vote Act guaranteed a private and independent ballot for all eligible voters and created provisions specifically for voters with disabilities. As a result, polling place accessibility has been steadily improving, but challenges still remain, including an increase in inaccessible voting stations. There is also a substantial voter participation gap between individuals with disabilities and their non-disabled peers—amounting to a 6% difference, or approximately 3 million voters. This grant will support increased capacity for NDRN’s election-related accessibility work.

Democracy Fund is proud to support NDRN’s work to educate election officials, equipment vendors, advocates, and the public on the need for fully accessible elections.
