New York University: SMaPP - Social Media and Political Participation Laboratory

The Social Media and Political Participation (SMaPP) Lab at New York University conducts research in three core areas: (i) the relationship between social media and politics, (ii) innovative methods to use social media data to study politics, and (iii) the development of open-source tools that facilitate the work of others.

Why We Invested

The Social Media and Political Participation (SMaPP) Lab is an independent research consortium that will examine how mis/disinformation was spread on social media platforms around the 2018 election. This cohort will support additional capacity within the field to better consider potential recommendations and new lines of inquiry.

Democracy Fund is proud to support the SMaPP Lab as it forges an interdisciplinary collaboration that examines the intersection of social media and politics.
