NYU & De Correspondent: Membership Puzzle Project

The Membership Puzzle Project, a collaboration between New York University and Dutch news site De Correspondent, will create a laboratory to study ways community engagement can strengthen investigative reporting and make journalism more sustainable.

Why We Invested

IInvestigative journalism plays a crucial role in our democracy by holding the powerful accountable and informing the public. The Membership Puzzle Project will take the wildly successful community-supported model De Correspondent has developed abroad and translate it to the American context. In partnership with First Look Media, this grant will enable New York University to create an open laboratory to tackle specific problems and develop scalable solutions for developing strong membership programs, and share those lessons with newsrooms across the United States.

This grant is a part of a collaboration between Democracy Fund and First Look Media to support the role of a robust, free press in our democracy. Read more about the collaboration here.
