Democracy Fund

NYU Institute on the Arts and Civic Dialogue (IACD)

The mission of the NYU Institute on the Arts and Civic Dialogue (IACD) is to support artists whose works address social justice and related themes. The IACD supports arts education, and creates a meeting place for artists, scholars, and audiences to exchange ideas and generate new work.

Why We Invested

The Rights and Dignity (RAD) Working Group comprises representatives from The Omidyar Group, Democracy Fund, Humanity United and Luminate, and is committed to addressing conditions and systems of hate through a values-based, collaborative approach. Democracy Fund convenes and supports the working group.

The RAD Working Group seeks to support public exhibitions, artistic renditions, storytelling, theater, etc. that connect an inclusive vision of society, based on the values of respecting and affirming rights and dignity, with broad members of the public. The purpose of this grant is to support the NYU Institute on the Arts and Civic Dialogue (IACD) as they organize a convening entitled, “Radical Hospitality: Imagining Home for a Generation Displaced and Discarded - A Global Convening of Artists, Scholars, and Activists.” The convening will take place at La Pietra, the NYU academic center in Florence, Italy in 2020.
