Student Press Law Center

The Student Press Law Center (SPLC) is an independent, non-partisan 501c(3) which works to promote, support and defend the First Amendment and press freedom rights of high school and college journalists and their advisers.

Why We Invested

The Student Press Law Center uses the law to help students of all ages meaningfully participate in civic life and learn essential skills, ethics and values through the vehicle of journalism. The SPLC provides information, training and legal assistance at no charge to student journalists and the educators who work with them. We believe the American people must have effective ways to understand and be a part of the democratic process. Teaching young Americans about the role of a free press in our democracy, and how to protect their rights as journalists and citizens, is key to ensuring that future generations have access to information necessary to maintaining the health of our democracy.

The Student Press Law Center is a necessary and widely used resource for student journalists and their supervisors at every educational level. This grant to Student Press Law Center is designed to elevate and recognize their work in defense and support of student journalists nationwide.
