WHY WE INVESTED
As our nation faces intense lack of trust in our institutions and each other, the Socrates Program works to refresh the meaning of our democracy. The program was created in 1996 as a forum for emerging leaders from around the country to convene and explore contemporary issues through expert-moderated Socratic dialogue. Socrates also provides the opportunity for participants to enter into a diverse professional network, and into the broader range of the Aspen Institute’s programs.
With the help of our grant, the program seeks to advance their Emerging Governance Leaders Seminar Series, launched earlier this year, with a cohort of diverse Hill staffers to explore the role of Congress and identify opportunities to support their growth on the Hill. Furthermore, the program seeks to expand its seminar series, The American Values, which will provide a space for diverse, civically engaged citizens to promote dialogue on America’s founding documents.
