The Morgan Initiative

The Morgan Initiative, a project of the School of Global Journalism and Communication (SGJC) at Morgan State University, aims to expand the diversity of thoughts, opinions, and beliefs by offering students the liberal arts education and skills training they need to effectively communicate ideas and accurately tell the stories of others.

Why We Invested

The Morgan Initiative is dedicated to giving a broader group of people voices in their communities, especially those who struggle to contribute to the public discourse that shapes this nation. Additionally, this project demonstrates how universities can lead collaborative reporting projects that challenge local newsrooms to shift their content practices.

The Morgan Initiative, in addition to training better journalists, will look to find effective delivery systems of news and information to underserved communities. With the help of our grant, the School of Global Journalism and Communication seeks to expand its social justice and community reporting initiatives with professional and academic partners. By partnering directly with the community and collaborating with other universities, this project will offer insights into gauging and where citizens get their information while delivering it in a format that is much more effective than the traditional news model.
